1972 Topps
The 1972 Topps Baseball set consists of 787 cards – the largest Topps issue of its time. Each 2-1/2" by 3-1/2" card boasts a vivid color photo in an arch shape and surrounded with a bi-color border, all of which is contained within the overall white border. The player’s name is printed with a white panel below the picture while the team name is above the picture. The set is anchored by stalwarts Hank Aaron, Roberto Clemente, Willie Mays, Pete Rose, and more than six dozen “In Action” examples featuring action shots of popular players scattered throughout. Notable rookies include Don Baylor, Cecil Cooper, Carlton Fisk, Dave Kingman, Darrell Porter and J. R. Richard. Though no rarities per se, the “High-Numbers” (#526-787) are more difficult to obtain, particular the cards of Steve Garvey (#686) and Rod Carew (#695), and card #91 and card #162 both reveal photo errors.
